What is an Underwire Bra?

Bras with sewn-in U-shaped wires to cradle the underside of the breast in each bra cup. If you are in the correct bra size and bra style, these bras are the most comfortable. This support feature helps to lift, separate, and shore up the bustline for better shape and extra support- especially for full-figured women. Bras with underwires can be designed with less coverage than those without.  Demi, balconette, and plunge bras use shorter underwires. Thus, good bra style choices for petite and short-waisted women.

Underwire Bras

In the right size, a very comfortable fit

The underwire bra is a bra style that is constructed with thin, semi-circular strips of wire or plastic sewn into the bottoms of the cups. The purpose of the underwire is to help prevent sagging and lift the breasts so they appear more upright and lifted. This is one of the most popular bra styles among women.

Because the underwire bra provides extra lift and support, it flatters the figure and gives you a sexy and feminine silhouette. Worn by women of all different cup sizes both large and small, there’s an underwire for every woman – regardless of her size, shape, and breast type.

Types of underwire bras

The majority of underwire support bras are made in the traditional style, including adjustable or convertible straps and a hook and eye back closure. There is a large variety of different underwire bras, including seamed cups, T-shirt bras, minimizer bras, demi cup bras, full coverage bras, and more.

Demi cup underwire bras give you the lift and support you expect from an underwire bra, with the sexy look of a cup with less coverage.

Full-coverage underwire bras lift and support your breasts while also giving you full coverage, modesty, and comfort.

Minimizer underwire brashelp reduce the projection of larger breasts for women who want to get a naturally, but less “out there” breast shape and silhouette. Minimizers are great under button-front shirts and other shirts that may cause gapping when worn by fuller figured women. They redistribute the breast tissue upwards and to the sides to create a natural and smooth shape.

Push-up underwire bras are designed to lift the breasts and enhance the cleavage. Padding in some push-up bras can make your breasts look a cup or two larger. The padding provides extra modesty around the nipples.

Seamed cup underwire bras</strong> are popular because their cup construction is made of 2 or more parts, which helps give you even more support than a seamless bra style. These are also made to flatter your shape.

T-shirt underwire bras create a smooth, rounded look under close-fitting clothing. Almost every woman has at least one T-shirt bra in her lingerie wardrobe because the style is flattering, comfortable and supportive.
